Rotomolding Your Parts

Elkhart Plastics provides all-encompassing solutions to meet every customer’s needs. While we’re able to handle a variety of product types ranging in levels of complexity, the foundational process of rotational molding can be summarized in the following steps.

  1. Load the Mold: Empty or hollow molds are filled with the desired resin material and loaded onto a large device called a spider.
  2. Heat the Mold: The molds are then rotated slowly in a large oven, allowing the material to be dispersed and softened until it lays out onto the mold surface to form the product.
  3. Cool the Mold: After the material has been melted, it continues to rotate on the spider through a cooling process, which helps to harden and set the plastic material.
  4. Unload the Mold: Once the part has been properly cooled, operators at Elkhart Plastics facilities unload the mold.

Depending on the product, the part will then move on to secondary assembly operations or the quality lab for testing.
